La Paz, Bolivia | May 30 – June 1, 2025
Earlier this summer, Best Buddies International team members Cary Ombres, Senior Vice President Global Mission Impact and Engagement, and Matthew Fernandez, Manager of International Jobs and Transitions, traveled to La Paz, Bolivia for a powerful three-day strategic visit. Their goal: to help shape a bold future for Best Buddies Bolivia through planning, training, and vision alignment.
Building a Strategic Foundation
The visit kicked off with a comprehensive SWOT and PESTEL analysis, where the local team evaluated their internal strengths and challenges alongside Bolivia’s external social, economic, and political landscape. These discussions laid the groundwork for strategic decision-making in the months ahead.
Aligning on Vision and Goals
In a highly collaborative session, the team focused on clarifying their shared vision and refining both short- and long-term goals. Priorities included:
- Expanding the Citizens Program
- Deepening community engagement
- Launching the Ambassador Program to empower self-advocates with IDD
- Preparing to implement the Transitions Program for post-secondary planning
- Introducing the Best Buddies Jobs Program to promote inclusive employment
Training for Sustainable Impact
A major highlight of the trip was the delivery of the official Best Buddies Jobs Training.
The Bolivia team eagerly explored best practices in:
- Supported employment
- Participant preparation
- Employer engagement
- Customized job development strategies
Following the training, the teams co-developed a custom Jobs Program strategy and phased implementation plan, with clear milestones and deliverables through June 2026.
Energized for the Future
The visit concluded with a unified team, a sharpened strategic focus, and a renewed commitment to growth. Best Buddies Bolivia is aiming high: by 2026, they envision becoming a national leader in the inclusion movement.
