Boynton Beach Water Tower Lit Purple for Best Buddies

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The Boynton Beach water tower that was draped in Purple light on Wednesday started as a way to simply recognize the fact that March is Best Buddies month – but now, it’s turned into a call to action because of the coronavirus outbreak.
“Everything that’s happening with the coronavirus is like the antithesis of what Best Buddies is about. We work everyday to promote social inclusion,” said David Quilleon, the Senior Vice President of the Best Buddies Global Mission.
That in-person connection has been halted, but the purple light on the Boynton Beach water tower is giving this community comfort.
“Hopefully it’s a reminder to everyone who is feeling isolated or feeling alone that we all can be beacons of light for people,” said Quilleon.
A group that already felt isolated from the world – now feels even more alone because of the coronavirus outbreak – But Best Buddies is encouraging their community to stay connected online.
“They can remain active with Best Buddies through our E-Buddies program, we have so many people who want to be matched and this program provides the benefit of a one-to-one friendship via email,” said Quilleon.
