Best Buddies International is the world’s largest nonprofit devoted solely to providing opportunities for friendship, employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies Living represents the “inclusive living” pillar. The program alleviates the lack of inclusive, independent housing options for individuals with IDD and fosters an integrated experience for them to become active, contributing citizens who live independently in a dynamic environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive. To-date, Best Buddies Living has 150 residents living at 17 apartment communities near large colleges and universities across the country.

Best Buddies Living residents 18 years+ live together in an inclusive and supportive community where young adults can grow and thrive. Landmark works with Best Buddies Living to find available, right-sized apartments for residents at its properties in communities where the organization has housing needs; it also supports the expansion of the program by allocating apartments at properties under construction or coming to market.

All of Landmark’s communities feature modern finishes, in-unit laundry, and a comprehensive amenity package. The Legacy at Ann Arbor is a 19-story, 521-bed high-rise at 616 E. Washington Street in Ann Arbor, MI. Delivered in 2025, it offers residents a mix of studios to five-bedroom apartments. The Standard at Austin is a 17-story 974-bed high-rise at 715 W. 23rd Street in Austin, TX. Built in 2020, it offers a mix of studios to six-bedroom units. The Standard at Tallahassee was built in 2018 and features 876 beds across studio to six-bedroom floorplans. The Station State College is a cottage-style mid-rise community. Built in 2018, it contains 668 beds in a mix of one- to -five-bedroom apartment layouts.

Landmark Properties has been partnering with the organization since 2023 and, with the addition of Ann Arbor, Austin, and State College, now champions the program at 11 of its properties. Piloted at The Cloisters Miami (University of Miami), the company’s involvement has grown each year and now includes The Standard at Atlanta (Georgia Tech), The Standard at New Brunswick (Rutgers), The Metropolitan Gainesville (University of Florida), The Ridge Clemson (Clemson University), The Standard at College Park (University of Maryland), and The Mark Los Angeles (UCLA).
