A Friendship That Lasts – Maddi & Shaila Celebrate Three Years of Friendship at OSU

At Oklahoma State University, a remarkable friendship has blossomed over the past three years—one that perfectly reflects the mission of Best Buddies. Maddi and Shaila, a buddy pair matched through the OSU chapter, have created a bond rooted in inclusion, laughter, and meaningful connection.
For Maddi, joining Best Buddies was about forming relationships with individuals she may not have met otherwise. “My passion is supporting individuals in their adult lives, and Best Buddies felt like the perfect fit,” she shared. From day one, her match with Shaila exceeded expectations.
The two quickly discovered a rhythm of friendship that felt natural and fun. Whether they’re singing along to music in the car, getting ice cream, or playing games with friends at Maddi’s house, their favorite moments are the simple ones shared together. One of Maddi’s most cherished memories is when Shaila joined her family for Thanksgiving. “It was so fun having her there, and for my family to meet someone who has become such an important part of my life,” she said.
Shaila’s perspective is equally heartfelt. “We do a lot of things like play games and do arts and crafts,” she said. “It makes people happy. It’s a community thing—true friends, people who live together in one big family.”
The impact of their friendship goes beyond weekly meetups. Maddi says the experience has taught her just how meaningful and life-changing inclusive friendships can be. “It’s reminded me how important it is to be intentional.”
Their story serves as a powerful reminder that friendship, inclusion, and belonging have no limits—and that Best Buddies truly is a place where lifelong connections are made.
