Best Buddies Macau recently hosted its signature annual event, Friendship Charity Walk 2026, bringing together more than 700 participants in support of inclusion, friendship, and acceptance for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Held around Sai Van Lake in Macau, the event welcomed community members, organizational representatives, volunteers, individuals with special needs, and their families for an afternoon focused on building a more inclusive and caring community. The walk also raised funds in support of the organization’s “Friendship Project,” an inclusive one-to-one friendship initiative.
The opening ceremony took place at Sai Van Lake Square and featured representatives from several community organizations and government agencies, alongside leadership from Best Buddies Macau.
Celebrating 11 Years of Inclusion in Macau
During the ceremony, Best Buddies Macau Chairperson Chui En Ming shared that the Friendship Charity Walk has served as an important platform for promoting inclusion in Macau for eleven consecutive years. Since becoming an affiliate of Best Buddies International in 2014, Best Buddies Macau has remained committed to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, inclusive employment, and leadership development for individuals with IDD. By the end of 2025, the organization had hosted 569 Best Buddies activities with more than 24,000 participant engagements, including over 5,200 engagements from individuals with IDD, and successfully matched 269 buddy pairs.
This year’s event received support from more than 30 local organizations and institutions, highlighting the growing commitment to inclusion across the Macau community. While the walk also supports fundraising efforts, organizers emphasized that the heart of the event is creating opportunities for meaningful connection and encouraging greater public awareness around inclusion. Best Buddies Macau also recognized the continued efforts of the Macau SAR government in providing resources, facilities, and support for individuals with special needs, helping promote a more inclusive environment throughout the region. Through its “one-to-one” friendship model, Best Buddies Macau continues working to ensure individuals with IDD are fully included and connected within their communities.
Best Buddies Macau continues to expand opportunities for individuals with IDD by building meaningful friendships and creating more inclusive communities through volunteer engagement and advocacy.
