Best Buddies in Arizona at the 2025 Leadership Conference

Best Buddies in Arizona proudly sent its most diverse and dynamic group yet to this year’s Best Buddies Leadership Conference (BBLC) in Bloomington, Indiana. For the first time, our delegation included participants from four program pillars—Middle School/High School Friendship, College Friendship, Jobs, Ambassadors, Transitions and Living.
In total, we were thrilled to have 7 high school students, a college student, 3 dedicated chapter advisors, 7 Jobs participants, 4 Transitions representatives, and 6 Ambassadors and a Living representative. Each brought their own unique energy, ideas, and passion for inclusion, making this year’s conference a true milestone for our Arizona delegation.
The weekend was packed with opportunities to learn, lead, and connect with peers from around the world. From breakout sessions on advocacy and employment to workshops on chapter leadership and inclusive practices, our participants came away inspired and empowered to continue building a more inclusive community back home.

Our Jobs participants especially embraced the chance to grow their workplace skills and professionalism. As Connor “Spike” shared:
“I’ve learned being professional at work means making good eye contact.”
And Ian summed it up well:
“Professionalism means to be friendly, dressed appropriately, and to have good work behavior for the company you are working for.”
Their reflections are a powerful reminder of the real-world impact of Best Buddies programs and the confidence that can grow when given the opportunity to lead.
As High School Friendship Program participant, Paddy Thaw reflected:
“It was a joy seeing everyone together at BBLC and to meet new people of diverse backgrounds. I especially value being understood by others and gaining new insights on how to be a better leader. Being a part of something I believe in and that felt important was truly special. I had a great time and learned new perspectives; my only wish is that it had been longer.”

For others, the conference was both inspiring and fun. Genesis Nolasco, high school chapter leader, said:
“The leadership conference was one of the most exciting events I’ve ever attended. At first, I expected serious meetings and discussions and although I learned a lot, it was the complete opposite. I got to meet plenty of new people and even make new friends. I danced, laughed, sang, and best of all became a better leader… I felt accomplished, not only because I got to celebrate inclusivity, but because I was able to be included in such a special movement.”
The BBLC experience also created lasting friendships and strengthened bonds across our programs. Whether it was cheering at the opening ceremonies, learning new skills in leadership tracks, or dancing at the Sunday night party, our Arizona group returned home energized, unified, and ready to take what they learned and apply it in their schools, workplaces, and communities.
Thank you to all our supporters who made this unforgettable experience possible. We can’t wait to see how our 2025 leaders continue to build a more inclusive Arizona, one friendship at a time.
