At the heart of Best Buddies is a simple but powerful idea: when friendships are intentionally formed, lives are changed on both sides of the match. Our Cleveland Gala Mission Moment brings this idea to life in the most meaningful way.
This short film explores what we often call the perfect pairing, the magic that happens when individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities are matched in genuine, 1:1 friendship. Through shared experiences, consistency, and mutual respect, these friendships create confidence, leadership, and a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the classroom.
The video culminates in a moment that perfectly captures our mission in action. Viewers are invited into a high school prom celebration where one of our longtime Best Buddies participants, Andrew Schroeder, is crowned prom king. It is a joyful, emotional milestone, not just because of the crown, but because it represents years of friendship, advocacy, and inclusion made possible through Best Buddies.
Andrew’s story doesn’t end there. A few months after being supported by Best Buddies during his high school journey, he stepped forward to give back, earning him the title 2025 Champion of the Year. He’s raising awareness and support so others can experience the same life-changing friendships he did. His journey is a beautiful reminder that inclusion creates leaders, and leaders create change.
