Celebrating Inclusion: Meet Our 2025 Champion of the Year Candidates

We’re thrilled to introduce the 2025 Best Buddies Champion of the Year candidates—six outstanding community leaders who are using their voices, creativity, and passion to champion inclusion across New Mexico. These individuals represent the heart of our mission: building a world where everyone belongs.
This year’s candidates are Martin & Emily, Mary Soto, Mia Nguyen, Paloma Ortega-Hart, Sam & Sabrina, and Paige Maestas. Each of these Champions has stepped forward to raise critical funds and awareness for Best Buddies programs—initiatives that foster one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, inclusive living, and youth leadership development for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Throughout their campaigns, our candidates will connect with local businesses, community members, and supporters who share their passion for inclusion. Together, they’ll host events, share personal stories, and inspire others to join this movement of friendship and acceptance. Their creativity and dedication not only raise funds but also open doors of opportunity and understanding across our state.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about each candidate’s story—what drives them to be a Champion, the impact they’ve seen firsthand, and the difference they’re making in their communities. These stories reflect the true spirit of Best Buddies: joy, empowerment, and connection.
Their collective efforts will culminate at the 2025 Champion of the Year Gala, a celebration of leadership, inclusion, and community impact. During this inspiring evening, we’ll honor each candidate’s achievements and crown this year’s Champion of the Year—someone who embodies the mission of friendship and inclusion in extraordinary ways.
Tickets are now available — join us for a night of celebration, connection, and purpose as we unite to make inclusion a reality for all.
