Back to Best Buddies Training 2026

On February 1st, Best Buddies Michigan welcomed chapter leaders and advisors from across the state in Rochester Hills for its annual “Back to Best Buddies” training, designed to prepare chapters for a successful second semester. With this year’s playful “I ❤️ Best Buddies” theme, participants were met with a vibrant, interactive environment focused on inclusion, leadership, and community-building.
The afternoon training covered essential topics for chapter leaders, including managing members and matches, navigating leadership transitions, preparing for the Best Buddies Leadership Conference (BBLC), and planning for signature events such as Best Buddies Month, Spread the Word to End the Word, and the Friendship Walk.

A highlight of the day was the BBLC panel, featuring several of last year’s attendees. Panelists shared their unique experiences, offered advice, and answered questions from the audience, giving participants firsthand insight into what to expect and how to make the most of the conference.
“We were blown away by the energy and engagement of everyone who attended,” said Lydia Goff, Best Buddies Michigan Lead Program Manager. “These trainings are such an important way for our chapter leaders to feel supported and inspired. Hearing directly from past BBLC attendees was an incredible way for everyone to learn and get excited for this opportunity. We couldn’t do this without each and every one of you—thank you for leading with such big hearts!”
The training continues a tradition of fostering leadership and friendship within the Best Buddies community. Attendees left with new strategies to strengthen their chapters, enhance member experiences, and make the second semester as inclusive and engaging as possible. Many participants expressed excitement about implementing fresh ideas and collaborating with peers statewide.

Best Buddies Michigan has grown rapidly in recent years, and events like Back to Best Buddies help ensure that every chapter has the tools and knowledge to thrive. With passionate leaders at the helm, the organization is poised to continue promoting friendship and inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the state.
As the second semester gets underway, Best Buddies Michigan looks forward to seeing the impact these inspired leaders will make in their schools and communities—and celebrating more moments of connection, learning, and fun along the way.
