Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – October 2026 – Best Buddies International, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), celebrates the continued efforts of Best Buddies Malaysia to foster meaningful friendships and inclusive communities through its Citizens program.
Throughout 2026, Best Buddies Malaysia has brought together individuals with and without IDD through engaging activities designed to strengthen friendships, encourage social connections, and create opportunities for shared experiences. From an inclusive fitness session to a creative coaster-making workshop, these gatherings demonstrate how friendship and belonging can be fostered in a variety of ways.
Building Connections Through Movement
On May 23, 2026, Best Buddies Malaysia hosted its first-ever Inclusive Fitness Day, bringing together buddies, peers, and parents for a morning of movement, teamwork, and friendship.
Led by an inclusive fitness coach, the event featured activities thoughtfully adapted to accommodate participants of different abilities, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to participate confidently and meaningfully.

Participants were divided into three groups and challenged to work together using a 20-kilogram battle rope, encouraging communication, cooperation, and teamwork. The excitement continued with a group relay featuring sprints, battle rope exercises, and bear crawls, as participants cheered one another on and celebrated each accomplishment.
Beyond physical activity, the event emphasized the importance of building confidence, developing body awareness, and strengthening relationships through shared experiences. The morning concluded with a lucky draw offering participants the opportunity to win private group coaching sessions, encouraging continued engagement and connection beyond the event.

Creating Friendships, One Coaster at a Time
Continuing their efforts to bring participants together, Best Buddies Malaysia hosted its second Citizens Matching Party of the year on August 22, 2026, welcoming 26 participants for a morning of creativity, laughter, and friendship.
The gathering began with interactive icebreakers and group games designed to encourage participants to introduce themselves, engage in conversations, and build connections in a welcoming environment.

The highlight of the event was a hands-on coaster-making activity, where buddies and peers explored their creativity by designing personalized coasters with different colors, patterns, and ideas. As participants worked alongside one another, the activity created natural opportunities for conversation, collaboration, and encouragement.
Through simple yet meaningful shared experiences, participants were able to reconnect with friends, form new relationships, and enjoy a sense of belonging within their community.
Strengthening Inclusive Communities Through Friendship
Together, these activities reflect Best Buddies Malaysia's ongoing commitment to creating inclusive spaces where individuals with and without IDD can develop genuine friendships, build confidence, and participate meaningfully in their communities.
Through the Best Buddies Citizens program, adults with and without IDD have opportunities to establish one-to-one friendships and strengthen social connections beyond traditional school-based programs.

Whether through physical activity, creative expression, or simply spending time together, Best Buddies Malaysia continues to demonstrate that meaningful inclusion is built through everyday experiences, shared encouragement, and the power of friendship.
