Delaware Back to Best Buddies

On February 20, 2026, student leaders from across Delaware gathered at the University of Delaware for an energizing and impactful Back to Best Buddies Training. The event brought together college, high school, middle, and elementary school leaders for a day dedicated to strengthening inclusive school communities across the state.
We were especially proud to have our largest-ever representation from college student leaders, with five leaders attending from the University of Delaware. Their strong presence demonstrated a deep commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and growing the Best Buddies mission throughout higher education.
In addition to our college leaders, we were thrilled to welcome students and advisors from Appoquinimink High School, Cape Henlopen High School, Smyrna High School, Marbrook Elementary School, and Cantwells Bridge Middle School. It was inspiring to see leaders from elementary through college levels learning side by side, united by a shared goal of fostering inclusion. While all Delaware schools were invited to attend, we also offered a virtual option to ensure that everyone had access to the training, regardless of travel constraints.
“Seeing leaders from elementary school through college come together for one shared purpose was so amazing! At the University of Delaware, we are proud to help lead that effort and to stand alongside our fellow chapters as we strengthen friendships, empower student leaders, and continue growing the Best Buddies mission across the state!” — University of Delaware Chapter President, Madison

Throughout the training, participants engaged in sessions covering match maintenance, the importance of inclusion, buddy boundaries, leadership transition and sustainability, and planning for our upcoming statewide events. These discussions provided practical tools and meaningful conversations to help chapters thrive throughout the year.
A huge thank you goes to the UD Investment Club for supporting this important initiative. Their generosity helped make it possible to train and empower student and faculty leaders across Delaware. Together, we are building stronger, more inclusive communities, one friendship at a time!
