Griffin’s Best Buddies Journey

From Project SEARCH to independent living and meaningful employment.
Griffin’s story is a powerful example of how opportunity, support, and community can empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive in every aspect of life. Through multiple Best Buddies California programs, Griffin has built confidence, independence, meaningful relationships, and professional success.
Griffin first began his journey with Best Buddies through the Project SEARCH program in Fresno. Project SEARCH is a 9-month transition-to-work program that helps young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) gain real-world job experience and employment skills. Through internships at Community Regional Medical Center, workplace training, and individualized support, participants learn the tools they need to pursue meaningful employment and greater independence. For Griffin, Project SEARCH became the foundation for his future success by helping him build confidence and discover his strengths in a professional environment.

After completing Project SEARCH, Griffin took another exciting step forward by moving to Los Angeles to join the Best Buddies Living program. Best Buddies Living supports adults with IDD by helping them live more independently while building strong social connections and life skills within a supportive community environment. Residents participate in themed monthly activities, learn valuable independent living skills, and develop lifelong friendships along the way.
“I like it here because I feel more confident in living independently and have family to support me here. I like being here because it’s fun and each month has different events with different themes, which allows me to learn new lessons while living here.”
Most recently, Griffin used the independence and confidence he gained through both programs to achieve another major milestone by securing a job at Belmont Village in March 2026. Today, Griffin is thriving in his role as a Bistro Attendant at Belmont Village. He has quickly grown to love his work, where he spends his days preparing meals, serving beverages, and providing exceptional customer service to residents. Helping others and making people’s day brighter has always been something Griffin enjoys, making this role a perfect fit for his warm and caring personality.

Griffin truly enjoys connecting with residents and brings positive energy to every interaction. Whether assisting in the bistro or supporting daily service, he takes pride in creating a welcoming experience for everyone around him. His dedication, kindness, and enthusiasm have made a lasting impact on both residents and coworkers alike.
We are incredibly proud of Griffin and all he has accomplished. His journey is a shining example of how Best Buddies empowers individuals with disabilities through all aspects of life, from education and employment to independent living and community connection.
