At Tesoro High School, a friendship that began four years ago through Best Buddies has flourished into something truly special. Seniors Diana and Deeba first met as freshmen, joining their school’s Best Buddies chapter with open minds but unsure of what to expect. Now, as they prepare to graduate, they can’t imagine life without each other.

For Deeba, this friendship has been life-changing.

“Diana has completely transformed my perspective on friendship,” she says. “Before meeting her, I never imagined someone could be so genuinely kind. We talk at school every day, call each other every week, and spend time together often. Her compassion and love are truly unmatched, and knowing her has changed my life in ways I never expected.”

Diana shares the same sentiment, saying

“I love Deeba because she always makes my day. I love calling her and hanging out with her. She is my best friend.”

One of their favorite things to do together is going to the mall.

“My favorite memory with Diana is when we went to the Mission Viejo Mall, and I bought and surprised her with a Five Nights at Freddy’s game (her favorite) from GameStop! She still plays it to this day! We roamed around the entire mall,” Deeba recalls.

What began as a school program has turned into a lifelong bond built on trust, laughter, and unconditional support. Their chapter advisor, Mr. Corbett, recognizes their friendship as one that embodies the true spirit of Best Buddies.

“The relationship that Diana and Deeba have is what all Best Buddies friendships should be. Deeba spends time with Diana outside of school as well as every day at school. She attends all of her birthdays and gets her small gifts for special occasions. Diana loves her like a big sister. Diana has muscular dystrophy and is confined to an electric wheelchair, but that doesn’t stop Deeba from doing things with her. I know this friendship will last for many years to come.”

Diana and Deeba’s story is a testament to the power of inclusion and friendship—proof that when people are given the opportunity to connect, incredible bonds can form. As they look ahead to their next chapter, one thing is certain: their friendship will last long beyond high school.
