Message from our State Director
We have three strategic areas of focus; funding, functionality, and communication. Our funding goals were to increase private and state funding of our Friendship and Jobs programs through individual giving, special events, regional center contracts, and foundations. To improve overall functionality, we developed a plan to add several additional staff members to our California team, develop advisory boards
, and focus on cultivating and engaging our volunteers. Lastly, to continue to improve communication with our community through awareness events, partnerships, and social media.
We accomplished our funding goals by maintaining support from our current private donors, foundations, and state contracts while soliciting and securing support from new foundations and regional centers. Additionally, we held six major fundraising events including the Northern California Gala, Best Buddies Friendship Walks, the Malibu Tennis Invitational, the Vanguard Event, and the Los Angeles Poker Tournament.
As a result of our increased funding, we were able to hire an additional Jobs Supervisor and two new Employment Consultants in Southern California, and an additional three Employment Consultants in Northern California, along with a Deputy Director of Jobs position. These additional supervisory roles and positions will not only allow us to expand our reach, but will also provide additional reporting infrastructure and stability to our rapidly growing Jobs program.
We also continued to improve our functionality by building a Northern California board, and starting to rebuild the Southern California Board. We’ve create two regional Young Professionals Committees, a statewide volunteer board, and have begun to reengage our alumni throughout the state.
Lastly, we have highlighted all of our programs through aggressive social media and marketing campaigns- like I’m In To Hire, Spread the Word to End the Word, Best Buddies Month, and through our weekly social media
Our goals are to continue to expand our reach through our supported employment and friendship programs across the state of California, maintain our current funding sources while continuing to increase revenue through special events and new foundations, and continuing to improve our functionality by building the Southern California advisory board, and further developing our volunteers throughout the state.
