Best Buddies Michigan Featured on the Lucy Ann Lance Show

Best Buddies Michigan was thrilled to be featured on the Ann Arbor-area Lucy Ann Lance radio show’s “Community Cares” segment, where Ambassador Rebecca shared her inspiring journey and the profound impact of Best Buddies programs on her life. Alongside Lydia Goff, Lead Program Manager, Rebecca had the opportunity to talk about the wide-ranging programs that create inclusive communities and lifelong friendships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Ambassador Rebecca, a leader in the Best Buddies Emerging Leaders Program, spoke about how the organization has transformed her life.
“It has changed my life forever,” she shared. “When I was a kid, I didn’t have many friends in school…so this is why Best Buddies has changed my life. I have so many friends, I just love it. I feel less lonely, I feel more confident, I am so much happier.”
Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact that friendship, inclusion, and opportunity can have on an individual’s life.

During the interview, Rebecca and Lydia spotlighted Best Buddies Michigan’s friendship programs for all ages, including school chapters for students and the Washtenaw Citizens program for adults. These programs provide one-on-one friendships that foster confidence, social skills, and a sense of belonging. They also emphasized the urgent need for volunteers to help expand the Washtenaw Citizens program. The commitment is simple: fostering a friendship with someone with IDD and participating in fun group activities.
In addition to its friendship programs, the conversation highlighted other transformative opportunities offered by Best Buddies Michigan. The Jobs Program empowers individuals with IDD to gain meaningful employment, build independence, and thrive in the workplace. Leadership development programs teach self-advocacy, communication, and leadership skills, helping participants grow as confident, empowered leaders. Inclusive Living is coming to Ann Arbor in August 2026, fostering an integrated living community for adults with and without IDD.
The Lucy Ann Lance Show provided an incredible platform for Ambassador Rebecca to share her story, highlight the full breadth of Best Buddies Michigan programs, and inspire others to get involved. Through friendships, employment, leadership development, and inclusive living opportunities, Best Buddies continues to create a world where everyone belongs.
