Meet Humboldt High School Members Cain Burwell and Jacob Hunter

Cain Burwell, sophomore (left of picture), and Jacob Hunter, freshman (right of picture), are both members at Humboldt High School Best Buddies. Both members have been a part of Best Buddies for one year. Cain joined Best Buddies to have fun, let his personality show, and find a good friend. Jacob’s motivation to join Best Buddies was because he wanted to make the world more inclusive.
Some achievements and milestones the duo have completed while being a part of Best Buddies include that Cain has become a better person, and the narrative of what people thought about him has changed since joining Best Buddies. Jacob says getting to know Cain and becoming genuine friends has been a highlight.
One of the most memorable stories that Cain has with Jacob is when they went out to lunch with each other and Jacob called him for his birthday.

“It was the best day of my life, and it showed me that someone cares about me.”
Jacob also brought Cain a gift basket on the last day of school, and it made his whole world according to Cain.
Jacob shared that one of the most memorable parts of being in Best Buddies is when he and Cain first became buddies at the Humboldt match party.
“Every time we go out to eat it makes me happy to be able to be around him.”
Cain’s message that he would like to share with others in the community about the importance of inclusion and friendship is to follow your dreams and to not be rude to others.
“Being in Best Buddies lets me be around people who really care about me.”
Jacob shares that being a part of Best Buddies is about being inclusive and that it is a huge part of being a leader. When he and Cain became Best Buddies, it showed others what being inclusive does—it means a lot for everyone else.
