From Matching to Making a Difference

Andrew Nelson (right of picture) and Jack Gordon (left of picture) recently just got matched! Both members have been a part of the chapter for 3 years now and are very excited to create memories together. Andrew’s motivation to join Best Buddies was during his freshman year his English teacher and overall enjoyment from working with people of all backgrounds.
“Jack has gotten more comfortable sharing his interests and passion for football with new friends throughout his time in the program.” Andrew shared.
Andrew favorite memory from the Best Buddies program was once during a craft activity, one of Jack’s friends decided it was just right if she used Andrews brand new white sweatshirt as a canvas with their purple marker while Andrw was working with Jack. Needless to say, Andrew has a lot of Best Buddies merchandise.
Their motivation to join Best Buddies was to both be more involved, make new friends, and have a greater, positive impact on their school and Community.
Some achievements the duo have accomplished are for one, Andrew is the Social Meida Manager for the Adel Desoto Minburn High School Best Buddies program. This is Andre’s first year in a leadership position. Jack has grown so much in his confidence and advocating for himself.
Jack now goes to power hour in the gym without an additional peer or adult because the peers include and involve him in all the activities!
Andrew’s message that he would like to share with others in the community about the importance of inclusion and friendship is that the combination of friendship and inclusivity is vital because it allows people to broaden their perspectives through empathy and compassion.
“Ultimately, it makes us all comfortable with all differences, and it encourages change.” Andrew said.
Jack’s message that he would like to share with others in the community about the importance of inclusion and friendship is that inclusion I very important and just be kind to everyone around you.
