Best Buddies Delaware takes on Annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference

The Delaware Best Buddies delegation proudly joined thousands of participants from across the country at the 2026 Best Buddies Leadership Conference, bringing together 13 student leaders, 3 advisors, and 2 State Relationship Managers for an unforgettable weekend of learning, leadership, and friendship.
Delaware was represented by students and advisors from Smyrna High School, Appoquinimink High School, Middletown High School, McKean High School, and the University of Delaware. Throughout the conference, our delegation embraced every opportunity to grow as leaders, strengthen friendships, and bring new ideas back to their local chapters.
The weekend officially kicked off on Friday evening with the inspiring Opening Ceremonies, where attendees celebrated the mission of Best Buddies and the incredible impact of inclusion around the world. Throughout the conference, participants attended engaging keynote presentations from influential leaders and advocates who shared powerful stories about leadership, resilience, self-advocacy, and creating communities where everyone belongs.
One of the highlights for the Delaware delegation was seeing Appoquinimink High School take the stage during a general session to share their experiences participating in the Best Buddies Cultural Exchange Program with the Philippines. Their presentation showcased the power of global friendship and cultural understanding while representing Delaware with confidence and pride.

The conference schedule was filled with educational workshops, networking opportunities, and the always-popular World Café sessions. These interactive discussions allowed students and advisors to collaborate with peers from across North America, exchange ideas, and discover innovative ways to strengthen their chapters and expand opportunities for inclusion within their schools and communities.
Beyond the educational programming, attendees enjoyed several memorable conference traditions. Saturday evening brought excitement, teamwork, and plenty of laughter during the Best Buddies Games, while Sunday concluded with the beloved Festival of Friendship, a joyful celebration of the relationships and memories formed throughout the weekend.
The 2026 Best Buddies Leadership Conference left the Delaware delegation feeling inspired and ready to put their new knowledge into action. From meaningful learning experiences to lifelong friendships, the weekend reinforced the importance of inclusion, leadership, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to have a friend. Delaware returned home energized to continue creating more inclusive schools and communities, carrying the conference theme and the spirit of Best Buddies into the year ahead.
