Best Buddies International recently celebrated a major milestone as Best Buddies Travel hosted its inaugural Youth Cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas. The voyage brought together young adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) for an unforgettable experience focused on friendship, independence, adventure, and inclusion.

As the third trip offered through Best Buddies Travel and the second sailing with Royal Caribbean, the Youth Cruise gave participants the opportunity to explore new destinations, build meaningful friendships, and experience unforgettable adventures in a supportive and inclusive environment.

In the six weeks leading up to departure, travelers participated in weekly Zoom sessions focused on developing practical travel and independent living skills, including budgeting, travel safety and preparedness, and healthy habits while away from home. These sessions also fostered connections among participants before the trip began, creating a strong sense of community while helping build the confidence and independence needed for a successful travel experience.

Throughout the sailing, travelers enjoyed onboard entertainment, dining experiences, group activities, and time together at award-winning destinations, including Perfect Day at CocoCay. The experience provided participants with the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, practice independence, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

For many participants, the trip represented a new level of personal growth and freedom. One participant, Ryan, shared: "I could get used to this. Taking a vacation... without my parents... making new friends. This is the life I always wanted."

Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas provided an incredible setting for participants to explore, connect, and enjoy new experiences together. The success of the Youth Cruise highlights the impact that inclusive travel opportunities can have on individuals of all abilities.
