Motivating your Members

One of the biggest challenges for many chapter presidents is keeping chapter members excited and committed.  Your goal is to excite, energize, and motivate your chapter members to fulfill their commitment to their buddies all year long.  The time you spend on volunteer motivation and recognition will pay off with genuinely excited members who are fully committed to Best Buddies.

Understanding Your Chapter Member’s Motivation

Take some time to get to know your volunteers and consider why each is volunteering. How can you tap into this motivation to recognize and show your appreciation for your volunteers?  First, you must understand that there are many reasons why people volunteer.   Second, recognize each person’s motivation and let each know how much he/she is appreciated.  Chapter members are likely to remain involved if they:

  • See that they are making a difference
  • Feel that their efforts are appreciated
  • Enjoy the time they spend volunteering
  • See you as a good example

The time you spend on volunteer motivation and recognition will pay off with genuinely excited members who are fully committed to Best Buddies.
