Walker of the Week: Shawn Zhang, The Ambassador Walker

Shawn is a member of the Friendship Chapter at the Ohio State University and became a Best Buddies Ambassador in 2020. He became more engaged with Best Buddies when we had to transition our leadership trainings to a virtual model. He has attended more trainings than any self-advocate in our state! Now, he has decided to join us for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk and is looking forward to watching the event online on Thursday, May 13th.
What does inclusion mean to you?
Inclusion means the action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure. It also means the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or mental disabilities and members of other minority groups.
When did you first get involved with Best Buddies, and why?
I first got involved with Best Buddies on October 4, 2018, because it helps me in communication and social skills.
Who was your first buddy match and/or what is your favorite memory from Best Buddies?
My first buddy match was Morgan Krafts and my favorite memory from Best Buddies is Ohio State Buckeyes Football Watch Party.
What do you like most about Ambassador Trainings?
The only thing that I like most about Ambassador Trainings is Virtual Lesson and Discussion. During the pandemic, trainings were held online and now I can attend them regularly.
Why are you participating in the Best Buddies Friendship Walk this year?
I am participating in the Best Buddies Friendship Walk this year because I want to do more fundraisers.
Do you have any advice for others looking to get involved?
Yes, I suggest joining some of the virtual events.
You can join Shawn and more than 200 people across Ohio by participating or donating to the Best Buddies Friendship Walk at bestbuddiesfriendshipwalk.org/ohio.
