UNC Best Buddies & Pi Kappa Phi Host Joy Prom
The Joy Prom is an annual event hosted by UNC Best Buddies with the support of Pi Kappa Phi and the UNC Senior class. The idea for Joy Prom is simple: create a night for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) where they feel more accepted and loved than ever before. From the moment they step out onto the red carpet until the final note of the last song is played, the night will be completely about them. All guests will be paired with a UNC student for the duration of the night. Entry to this night of fun is FREE, and the dress code is at the discretion of each guest.
This amazing event is making the Chapel Hill community a truly inclusive place. The Daily Tarheel put together a feature of Joy Prom 2017, check out the full article here.
Tyler Kelly of UNC’s Pi Kappa Phi Chapter shared this: “Best Buddies has pushed the Pi Kapp brotherhood to be more thoughtful and empathetic towards people with disabilities by teaching us what it means to show kindness towards all. You have helped Pi Kapps better understand how to form meaningful relationships with individuals in our community that are often overlooked. You all have helped me understand that philanthropy is not always about raising the most money possible; instead, it is about serving people directly. We are so grateful for all of these lessons.”
