Julianna & Leeann: Wake Forest University
Julianna just graduated from Wake Forest University and is planning to begin her Master’s in Education there this fall. One of the best things about more years at Wake? Continuing her friendship with her best buddy Leeann. Leann attends Carter High School which is the only public high school in Forsyth County with a student population composed entirely of people with IDD. Julianna and Leeann have been friends for three years, since the founding of Wake Forest Best Buddies!
Serving as a founding officer for Wake Forest Best Buddies was not Julianna’s first experience with the program. She was involved in Best Buddies all throughout high school, serving as Chapter President. Best Buddies has always been a huge part of her life, giving her the opportunity to make lifelong friends, like Leeann. Julianna shared:
“Leeann and I have a ton in common like we both love Country music, art, and are religious. Knowing that I’ll be able to spend the afternoon with her, or even just stopping by her school, makes my day so much better. Leeann has introduced me to her family and I have loved getting to know her siblings. For us, it’s not about the monthly commitments or activities, we just love hanging out together. We are able to have fun and goof off like any friends do but she’s an amazing listener and has always been there for me, just like I have been for her. We’ve done a lot together, some of the highlights include attending art and dance classes, going out for ice cream and taking my dog on walks. Leeann and I both LOVE dogs.”
We are looking forward to fostering more relationships like that of Julianna and Leeann. To learn more about starting a chapter, please reach out to our Program Manager, Izzi Tritz.
