North Carolina Raises Over $30,000 at Inaugural Best Buddies Friendship Walk
North Carolina hosted its first ever state-sponsored Best Buddies Friendship Walk (BBFW) on May 6. The walk engaged the community in a celebration of friendship, inclusion and the opening of our state office while raising funds to support Best Buddies programs and expansion in the state of North Carolina.
The event day started out with light rain and a lot of worries, but as people started arriving, so did the sun. The BBFW brought together more than 200 people to walk for inclusion at Symphony Park. Coach LaMonte of Live at Daybreak served as event emcee and set the stage for an awesome day.
The event also featured Zumba by Weill Fitness, bounce houses, tattoos by Carmel Middle School, arts and crafts with Small Hands, Big Art, the firemen of Station 16 and their truck, lawn games, a photo booth and an appearance by a Checkers Cheerleader. Kona Ice of Southwestern Mecklenburg County also joined us, serving up slushies and donating a portion of proceeds back to our organization.

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk was an awesome opportunity to share Best Buddies with the Tar Heel state and successfully raised over $30,000 for Best Buddies in North Carolina. These funds will go directly towards helping Best Buddies achieve its goal of opening 10 new school chapters in North Carolina for the 2017-18 school year.
State Director Tammy Medlock cannot contain her enthusiasm:
“We are off to such a great start! It was amazing to see how many people came out to learn more about Best Buddies. The potential for North Carolina is HUGE! I am so excited about all the wonderful friendships about to be formed!”
We look forward to seeing you at more events throughout the year. THANK YOU for your incredible support!
