Leadership Development
Before I joined Best Buddies in 2015 I felt lost, alone and left out, because I didn’t know anyone in my hometown with a developmental disability. When I was introduced to the Best Buddies Ambassador program, I realized that the program would help me improve my social skills, my writing skills and my speaking skills for speaking at public events and in front of larger audiences. Since I have a story to tell, I was excited to learn the skills to share my life with others. I have also made new friends, with and without disabilities!
Since becoming involved with Best Buddies I have become involved in a coloring group every second Tuesday of every month at the Concord Public Library, and I also volunteer my time at the YMCA in the babysitting room. My life has changed since joining Best Buddies because I now feel more confident and I have learned more skills about life and meeting new people and making friends along the way. I went to the Best Buddies Leadership Conference in 2016 and that was scary for me! I am declared legally blind and traveling to a strange place by myself was intimidating. I didn’t know what to expect. I learned so much and I stepped outside my comfort zone! I even feel like I can be a role model for others. I am proud to be an Ambassador for Best Buddies and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Don’t let anything in your life make you feel alone or like an outsider.
Best Buddies helps people make connections with each other and that is what life is about – friendships in our community!
