Chicago Associate Board Spotlight: Courtney Hickman
Courtney Hickman is the new Co-Chair of the Best Buddies Associate Board in Chicago. Courtney works alongside Co-Chair, Audrey Filipiak, and 15 young professionals to raise funds and awareness about Best Buddies. Courtney Graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications. She has been involved in Best Buddies since freshman year of high school and was Chapter Vice President at Butler University for 3 years.
We asked her a few questions to learn more about why she is involved and what she is looking forward to accomplishing this year.
What is your previous involvement with Best Buddies?
During my time at Butler I had the opportunity to increase club membership, raise awareness of the great work our organization would be involved in, interact directly with participants and my buddy Phil, raise funds to be used for our events through silent auctions, and plan monthly events for our chapter.
Why did you become involved in the Associate Board?
After graduation I moved back to Chicago to begin work and knew I wanted to stay involved with Best Buddies. The opportunity to make a larger difference by fundraising for a great cause yet still having the opportunity to interact with others in the program was definitely a plus to being a member of the associate board. Even as a professional fundraiser in higher education, I still love spending my time making a difference by working with others who have the same passion for Best Buddies as I do.
What are you looking forward to accomplishing this year as co-chair?
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as this year’s Co-Chair for the Associate Board of Best Buddies. I am looking forward to working with my other executive board colleagues and bringing new ideas on how to raise awareness about the organization and planning events to reach a higher capacity to help Best Buddies grow as an organization. I am excited to watch our board grown in participation and engagement over the next year.
