Meet Catherine & Margaret
Margaret: “I have been in Best Buddies for 11 years. It is crazy to think that Best Buddies has been a part of my life for so long. I cannot imagine my life without Best Buddies. I found Best Buddies in 6th grade and now I am currently the president of the Southern Connecticut State University and Chapel Haven chapter and matched with a lovely person named Catherine”.
Catherine: “I have been involved with Best Buddies since I was in high school. I saw a flyer at school that was promoting Best Buddies and thought it looked interesting. I decided to go to a meeting and I have been involved ever since. Before Best Buddies, I was only friends with the people in my class and my siblings. I joined my first year at Chapel Haven and it helped me adjust to being away from home. We have had a great friendship over the past four years. My favorite chapter activity is Zumba or CrossFit, because I like to exercise and Margaret is funny because she doesn’t.”
Margaret: “In addition to chapter activities, we go out to eat when our schedules allow. We love to go to Panera in New Haven and then walk around the area. When it is nice out we spend some time on the green and exploring the shops. We have also participated in the additional healthy living activities our chapter offers. These were good bonding experiences because they were more relaxing environments with smaller groups to get to know each other. Catherine and I have also learned she is more of a skilled cook than I am”.
Catherine: “I got to meet more people from Chapel Haven and new people from SCSU. I have been matched with my buddy, Margaret, since my first year. At the match party I was very excited to learn I was matched with Margaret. We had met at the matching social and I had hoped to be paired together. Since then we have become closer and have stayed paired each year. We like to go out to eat in downtown New Haven. Our favorite place is Panera. It is nice going downtown because after eating we walk around the green and go shopping. We sometimes go alone or we invite our friends to join us. We like the activities our chapter holds. The first year we got to enjoy each activity together. It was something to look forward to every week. As Margaret became involved on the e-board and then president, we have enjoyed helping at the meeting. I get to help plan and run the activities with Margaret”.
