120 Students From New York Attend 28th Annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference
The 28th Annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference had over 2,300+ students around the world, including over 120 people from New York, come together for a weekend in July to learn more about leadership, inclusion, and advocacy. Student leaders took part in leadership training which provided them the opportunity to share ideas with students from around the world and gain knowledge on how to run a successful chapter while forming new lifelong friendships.
Students gained a new understanding and appreciation of social inclusion through group discussions, presentations by professionals who have dedicated their lives to the disability rights movement, a spotlight on advocacy for people with IDD, volunteer management and mission-focused training by Best Buddies staff.
Participants were thrilled to witness dynamic performances by renowned performers with IDD such as Lauren Potter of Glee, Megan Bomgaars of Born this Way, Lisa Smith, Marlana VanHoose, Mikayla Holmgren, and Katie Meade, among many others.
Our student leaders, ambassadors, and jobs participants are ready to take on New York and promote what it means to be a friend, colleague, and classmate to people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). We cannot wait to share all the amazing steps these students and jobs participants will take as they finish out summer and enter into the fall with ambition and excitement!
