Happy Labor Day — Today we celebrate Best Buddies Jobs!
September 5, 2016
Dear Best Buddies Family,
As summer comes to an end and many of us enjoy an extra-long weekend, it’s important to remember and appreciate the significance of Labor Day.
Today also highlights the importance of having meaningful employment. Since its inception, the Best Buddies Jobs program has assisted thousands of participants in earning an income, paying taxes, receiving benefits, and working in an environment alongside their peers in the community.
Our Jobs program focuses on white-collar jobs, which sets it apart from so many others, because Best Buddies assists individuals in careers that are not only enjoyable, but also competitive and inclusive. Dudley Williams III is the perfect example of how our Jobs program impacts the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Before joining the Best Buddies Jobs program, Dudley mostly worked part-time jobs, but his dream was to land a full-time job that would allow him to reach his full potential. Through the Best Buddies Jobs program, Dudley interviewed for a marketing position at John Hancock in Boston, excelled in his job interview, and was offered the position to work with this prestigious financial institution!
Here at Best Buddies, we will continue working towards our goal of creating a fully-integrated workforce where individuals with IDD can earn their own paychecks, pay taxes, positively contribute to their communities, and live the American dream, just like our friend Dudley.
Happy Labor Day!
