Wisconsin sends 131 delegates to the 27th annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference
The 27th annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference (#BBLC2016) was a four day adventure, held from July 22 through July 25, 2016. It was hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The weekend focused on offering training opportunities for attendees to share ideas, networking opportunities to meet new people, and most importantly, lasting friendships.
#BBLC2016 hosted more than 2,100 Best Buddies participants from around the world. Best Buddies Wisconsin was represented by 84 student leaders from 39 different chapters. These leaders came from our High School, College, and Ambassador programs. Additionally, Wisconsin brought eight volunteers to help our participants experience everything #BBLC2016 had to offer.
Though every moment of the conference was extraordinary, there were definitely moments that stood out. The first one was that one of Wisconsin’s Ambassadors, Zoey Mercado, had the opportunity to speak during the closing ceremony. Take a look at the link below to watch Zoey’s speech. Not only did Zoey represent Wisconsin, he was the last of the Ambassadors to speak at the closing ceremony and he left the crowd cheering on their feet!
Another great moment for me, was during our state meeting. All of Wisconsin’s chapter leaders got to know one another in a game of Rock Paper Scissors. Most of the attendees hadn’t met before, but that didn’t stop them from having fun. They got loud and cheered each other on as we crowned a champion!
As the current Best Buddies Wisconsin Intern, I am very fortunate to have attended #BBLC2016. I enjoyed working with conference attendees, listening to their fantastic ideas and, and hearing about their past experiences. Before joining the team, I was never part of Best Buddies. It was always something that I wanted to be a part of, and I can honestly say that I regret not joining sooner. It was a truly unforgettable weekend.
