95 Student Leaders From New York Attend Annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference
This past July marked our 27th annual Best Buddies Leadership Conference, where nearly 2,300 participates from around the world came to Indiana to learn how to effectively spread the mission of social inclusion for individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Over 95 student leaders from New York participated in this incredible three-day event, consisting of students from each of our four regions: Long Island, New York City, Albany, and Rochester.
New York had several outstanding achievements, including: our Buddy Ambassador from the Long Island Region, Vanessa Cunningham, speaking on stage for our closing ceremonies; Saratoga High School from the Albany Region being recognized on stage for raising over $10,000 dollars for the Albany Friendship Walk; and, Garden City High School from the Long Island Region being recognized on stage as the top fundraising chapter in the nation for all 2016 Best Buddies Friendship Walk events.
Garden City also had the opportunity to lead the international walk at conference with our Founder and Chairman, Anthony Kennedy Shriver. Overall, our staff and student leaders had an amazing weekend celebrating inclusion and learning with one another on how to strengthen our friendship programs at Best Buddies New York.
