Leadership Development: Mr. McGill, Advisor of the Year
Advisors play a key role in helping lead our school-friendship chapters to success! They are classroom educators by day and leaders of change by night. In his first year as a faculty advisor at Belvidere North High School, Mr. McGill helped his chapter grow significantly by fostering 25 one-to-one friendship matches, engaging the associate (non-matched) members of the chapter in more activities, and helping develop and mentor his student officer board.
The events were always extremely fun and well planned out and the students adored him! Most importantly, the quality of the friendships within the chapter improved as he made it a priority to help students connect and maintain their friendships.
At the Best Buddies Friendship Walk at Brookfield Zoo on May 7th, Mr. McGill was awarded “Advisor of the Year” by Best Buddies Illinois in recognition for the incredible impact that he made on his students, the chapter and his larger school community during the 2015-2016 school year.
Thank you, Mr. McGill for being a champion of our mission and for believing that everyone deserves the chance to enjoy life with friends by their side!
