Leadership Development: Leading the Fundraising Charge!
“Fundraising for Best Buddies this year was extremely important to me, mostly because of the impact it has had on my Buddy and me, but also for all the other Buddies who, because of Best Buddies, have had the opportunity to make friends and be included in ways they haven’t been before. By fundraising, I was able to help continue the amazing organization that I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of.”
– Carly Fishbein, student at Adlai E. Stevenson High School
The 2016 Best Buddies Friendship Walk at Brookfield Zoo was a fun-filled day for the nearly 1,500 participants who walked for friendship, inclusion and the mission of Best Buddies. The event raised over $100,000 to support state-wide programs and Peer Buddy, Carly Fishbein, from Adlai E. Stevenson High School went above and beyond in her fundraising quest by raising a whopping $2,425. Carly was our top fundraising individual in Illinois this year and here is a look at what made her fundraising efforts so successful.
WHAT MADE YOUR FUNDRAISING SO SUCCESSFUL?
“I started by making a post on Facebook explaining why I [volunteer with] Best Buddies along with what the money would be going towards. I sent out a few emails to close friends and family, but mostly received my donations from people who viewed my Facebook post. People were very generous and I was in awe of the end result.”
WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION?
“My Buddy, Jacob!”
Carly and Jacob have formed an exceptionally close bond through Stevenson High School’s Best Buddies chapter. It is plain to see how close they have become and their friendship has become an invaluable example for other matches at their school. Carly is just one of more than 9,000 participants actively involved in Best Buddies Illinois, many of whom also work tirelessly to ensure our programs continue to thrive by assisting us with raising the funds needed to maintain programs throughout the year. To all of our volunteers and supporters, we thank you for allowing Best Buddies to continue to change lives each and every day!
