Utah Sends Students to Indiana for Leadership Conference
Participants learned everything from recruitment, to retaining members, to running a successful fundraiser. General Sessions provided knowledge on the history of the disabilities rights movement, and a look into where we are going from here.
Leadership skills were gained and put into practice. Special attention was given to commitment to our buddies- to being all IN to the program and our friendships. Evenings were spent celebrating Best Buddies and the beautiful friendships that were built. Friday night was kicked off with a killer opening ceremony, with special appearances from our founder and Chairman Anthony K. Shriver and buddy ambassador and actress Lauren Potter.
We walked for friendship on Saturday night, rallying up our spirits for the year to come. Sunday night was closed out with an amazing closing ceremony full of powerful speeches by Ambassadors, along with musical numbers by Marlana VanHoose and Lisa Smith. The rest of the evening was spent dancing and bowling, enjoying time with new friends from across the state and country.
Alex Olausson, Chapter Vice President from BYU said Leadership conference this year was an experience I will not soon forget. From stunning performances to truly moving speakers, it was a blast. My favorite part, however, was the rare chance to collaborate with the chapter presidents of other universities all around the country in an effort to solve issues and make Best Buddies a truly life changing experience for everyone involved.”
We look forward to bringing this energy back to our chapters and members. Here’s to a great year!
