Honing in on Their Interviewing Skills
On Thursday, April 10 five Best Buddies Ambassadors gathered at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on Maryland Parkway, across from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to enhance their communication skills and prepare for a job interview.
Three speech coaches, Nathan, Donny and Sabrina, as well as Best Buddies Middle School Program Manager Heather Mayers, High School Program Manager Fredrick Hubbs, Program Supervisor Liz Luneza and Citizens Program Manager Ann Friedman, joined the Ambassadors.
Aside from practicing typical interview questions, the Ambassadors also received a lesson in dressing for success. Everyone, even the ladies, learned how to tie a tie.
After the Ambassadors felt confident about how they would dress for a job interview, mock job interviews were held with speech coaches. The Ambassadors had to answer questions like, “how do you handle stress?” and, “what has been your greatest professional accomplishment?”
When the event was over, the Ambassadors stood up and said the “Best Buddies Ambassador Pledge” as they were pinned with Best Buddies pins by their speech coaches.
Each of the Ambassadors said they learned a lot and felt more confident when applying for jobs in the community.
Best Buddies Nevada will be hosting several more Ambassador Trainings throughout the year, which prepare our Buddies for jobs, improve their communication and public speaking skills. For more information about upcoming trainings, please call (702) 822-2268.
