Ozzie Guillen Continues to Support Best Buddies
Miami Marlins Manager Ozzie Guillen made Buddy Ambassador Kristian Chima’s day this past Monday. The two met up at Marlins Park—the extraordinary new home of the Miami Marlins baseball team—for a joint photo shoot and public service announcement (PSA).
Ozzie took Kristian on a tour of the impressive private clubhouse, where he got to meet Marlins pitcher Heath Bell, who posed for pictures and autographed Kristian’s baseball.
Kristian also got to check out other spots where the Marlins pros spend much of their time, including the locker room, batting cages and physical therapy room.
“This is the greatest day ever! Ozzie rocks,” said Kristian upon his return from his exclusive tour.
After posing for pictures together in the dugout and shooting the PSA (in both English and Spanish) on the field, the buddy pair tossed a few balls on the field, with Ozzie giving Kristian some pointers.
Ozzie signed the very same ball they played catch with, in addition to a bat—both of which Kristian was ecstatic to keep.
Fox Sports came out to cover the shoot, and they got some great footage of the pair laughing together and enjoying the whole experience.
The sports outlet interviewed Kristian and Ozzie, as well as Best Buddies Founder and Chairman Anthony K. Shriver, who shed some light on Ozzie’s involvement with Best Buddies and what it means to the organization.
KPIX/CBS 5’s Roberta Gonzales, a longtime Best Buddies supporter, introduced Ozzie Guillen to Best Buddies in 2009.
The former White Sox manager shot a Regional Emmy-nominated PSA for Best Buddies that year and has continued to support the organization ever since.
Best Buddies is thrilled to have Ozzie Guillen’s continued support! We thank him for showing the world the importance of social inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
