Best Buddies chapters from around the world were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments during the 2010-2011 academic year at the 22nd Annual Best Buddies International Leadership Conference: The Big Picture. Nearly 1,300 students, leaders, and staff members, representing Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Turkey, Venezuela, and the United States, traveled to Indiana University to participate in the four-day conference, from July 22-25.
During the Opening Ceremonies, chapters from 10 middle schools, 29 high schools, and 28 colleges worldwide were recognized as Outstanding Chapters for their respective state, region, or country. Best Buddies International awarded one school from each category with the distinction of Overall Most Outstanding Chapter for the 2010-2011 academic year. These winners were chosen based on the quality of one-to-one friendships, group outings, chapter involvement, community awareness, and chapter communication.
"Best Buddies is grateful for the dedication and commitment made by the outstanding leaders and members of these incredible chapters, which have developed exceptional one-to-one friendships and lead the Best Buddies global movement," said Valerie Vitale, Senior Director of Programs, Best Buddies International. "Each chapter plays a vital role in furthering the social inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities within their communities. These volunteers are truly changing the world, one friendship at a time.”
Best Buddies International would like to congratulate the 2010-2011 Best Buddies International Outstanding Chapters recognized at the 22nd Annual Best Buddies International Leadership Conference.
